You may be planning to book a hotel stay but don't necessarily want to buy an entire package deal for a vacation. You might not need plane tickets or anything else that comes with package deals. You might think that the only way to get good deals on a hotel reservation is to go through a travel agent, but this isn't always the case.
Here are some tips to book a hotel stay within your budget so that you can enjoy your time away.
Book Your Room Early But Be Flexible
There are two ways to go about the timing of when to book a hotel stay. You can either book your room early and then keep checking to see if the rates will change before you leave on your vacation. You can also book as close to the time of your departure as possible. Many hotels will discount room rates if they have been unable to book guests — and sometimes they'll discount by quite a bit. They would rather have a guest pay less for a room than have it stay empty.
When you book early, keep checking their website or call the hotel once in a while leading up to the time you leave. If there have been cancellations or the hotel isn't as booked as management would like it to be, you could potentially score a deal on your rates. This means you have to be willing to be flexible in dates you can stay there, arrival times, and also be willing to keep checking the hotel to see if the rates have been lowered.
Pay For Your Room When You Book It
If you know for sure you aren't going to change your travel dates then you might want to pay for your room when you book a hotel stay. Hotels typically give you the option of paying upon arrival, after your stay is over, or you could pay in advance of your stay. Many guests like to pay as soon as they book their stay so they can just relax and know everything is already paid for before they can their trip.
It can also give you another benefit. In some cases, a hotel will discount your stay because you paid in advance. Hotels like this option because they have already received the funds and aren't waiting to be paid until your arrival or after your vacation is over. Many larger chain hotels will offer larger discounts if you pay in advance. Bear in mind though that these prices are not refundable so make sure you can go on the trip before you pay in advance.
